Diaper Cover Pattern

I just had the most fun working on some special orders for a photographer and someone who is expecting babies in the family.

These pictures show the cuteness I got to make. I’m anxious to see how the beautiful babies look in them!!

I wasn’t going to get into the baby niche because so many people make them– but I’m rethinking that decision. How precious are these!!!

Free Crochet Baby Shark Slipper

I promised the pattern for these cute shark slippers if I couldn’t find one… (or soon I will have them already made for sale at www.sewaccessible.storenvy.com)

These booties are sized for 0-3 months- if you play with the pattern and use other sized hooks you can make them for bigger sizes..

Now here it is!!

Supplies:

F and G hook

3 colors yarn

needle for ends

 

Special notes:

Special stitches are dc2tog- double crochet 2 together and sc2tog- single crochet 2 together.  If you don’t know how there are wonderful tutorials on www.youtube.com!!

When ss into edge to count as ch 1- it means to ss in the row above, because we are moving up to the next row.

Sole: (make 2)

Using an F hook with color #1 (this will be shark’s belly)

Ch 8,

R1- 2 sc into 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc into next 5 ch, 2 sc into last st

R2- ch 1, 2 sc into 1st st, 1 sc in next 7 st, 2 sc in last st.

R3- ch1, 1 sc in each st

repeat R3 until measures 2 inches…

…R4- ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in next 5 st, sc2tog

 

R5- ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 st, sc2tog

fasten and weave ends.  Should measure 2 1/2- 2 3/4 inches

 

Toe/Top

Using G hook and color #2 yarn (this will be shark back and head)

R1- ss into sole at end where you just fastened off, 2 sc in each st (6 st up to 12)

R2- ss into edge of sole (counts as ch1), 2 sc into 1 st, 1 sc into next 10 st, 2 sc in last st, ss into edge.

R3- ss into edge (counts as ch 1), 2sc into next 12 st, 2 sc in last st, ss into edge.

R4- ss into edge, 1 sc in each st, ss into edge

Sides/top of slippers

using color 2 and G hook

ss into sole at R3 edge (slipper’s R3)

R1- ch 1, 1 hdc in each edge st (4 st), sc in each top st (from toes- 16 st), 1 hdc in edge of other side of sole (4 st).  (24 stitches total)

R2- ch 2, 1 dc in each side st (4 st), 1 sc in each sc st (16), 1 dc in each side st (4 st)

R3- ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 st, dc2tog, 2 sc2tog, 1 sc in next 7 st, 2 sc2tog, dc2tog, 1 dc in next 3 st

R4- ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 st, dc2tog, 2 sc2tog, sc in next 4 st, 2 sc2tog, dc2tog, dc in next 3 st.

R5- ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 st, dc2tog, 1 dc in next 4 st, dc2tog, 1 dc in next 3 st

*use something to hold stitch ( I used other hook)* we will come back to this spot*.

Back of Slipper

using color #1 (shark’s tummy)

R1- ss into sole next to the side previously working on., ss into side piece (these 2 ss count as ch2)  1 hdc in each st (10 st) and ss into side (so we don’t have to sew them together)

R2- ss into side, front post crochet hdc in each st (10st), ss into side

R3-5 ss, into side, dc in each st across (10 st), ss into side

stop connecting to front

R6-7- ch 1, sc in next 2 st, 1 hdc in next, 1 dc in next, trc in next, 1 dc in next, hdc in next, 1 sc in next 2 st (10 st)

R8- ch1, *2 sc into 1 st, 1 sc in next st* across row

fasten and weave ends

*back to saved stitch of color #2*

Shark Head

R1- ch 1, dc in each st, ss into color 1 (12 st)

R2- ch 2, 2 dc into 1 st, 1 dc in next 12 st, 2 dc into last st (12 up to 14 st)

R3- ch 2, 2 dc in 1 st, 1 dc in next 6 st, 2 dc in next 2 st, 1 dc in next 2 s, 1 dc in next 6 st, 2 dc in last st (20 st)

R4- ch 1,1 sc in next 4 st, 1 hdc in next 2 st, 1 dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next 4 st, 1 dc in next 2 st, 1 hdc in next 2 st, 1 sc in next 4 st

R5- ch 1, 1 sc in next 4 st, 1 hdc in next 2 st, 1 dc in next 4 st, 2 dc I next 4 st, 1 dc in next 4 st, 1 hdc in next 2 st, 1 sc in next 4 st

R6- ch 1, sc2tog in next 4 st, dc2tog in next 20 st, sc2tog in last 4 st

R7- ch1, sc2tog across whole row

Teeth

using F hook

ss into edge (at corner of mouth)

ch 3, sc into 3rd ch from hook, ss into next st (on mouth edge), *ss into next st, ch 3, sc into 3rd ch from hook, ss into next st*  around.  I had 8 top teeth and 6 bottom teeth.

Middle Fin (make 2)

G Hook- color #2

R1- ch 10, sc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch

R2- ch 1, 1 sc in next 6 st, sc2tog

R3- ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in next 5 st

R4- ch 1, sc in next 2 st, 2 dc2tog

R5- ch2, 2 dc2tog

R6- ch 3 ss into the last ch 3 turn on previous row.

fasten off * save end to sew into slipper

Shark side fins (make 4)

G hook- color #2

R1- ch 6, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st (5 st)

R2- ch 1, 1 sc in next 3 st, sc2tog

R3- ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each st across

fasten off *save ends to sew into slipper

 

Just sew on button eyes and fins and you are finished!!!

Work up quick once you have the pattern and make great baby gifts!!!

A Hello to the Blogging World

Hi!! As I introduce myself I thought I would also share the 1st hat pattern I ever made :).

The crocheting that I do is a wind-down for me after getting my 3 big kids to school, little princess to grandma, and work all week. I also look around at other blogs and shops for inspiration and new ideas.

I give my Grandma credit for getting me started. I learned to make a chain and a basic stitch and made a scarf- my brother just made a chain with his ball of yarn- a bright red chain. 🙂

Once in college I learned a basic knit stitch while hanging out in the dorm and going to “knitting parties”. I haven’t done much with my knitting needles- but I’ve been hooking a lot lately!

I started crocheting to fill in time after my kids go to sleep and my husband is doing stuff with his bands. I know my hook time drives him crazy sometimes but part of this income will be saved to pay for the boys’ sports fees and the girls extras when they get old enough.

I crochet after kids go to sleep, while my husband drives me in the car, and sometimes after the big kids go to school- but that is usually cleaning time…
